Road safety spectacle for orphan children

The road safety spectacle “Alex in the city” continues to teach children throughout the country. In the period September – November, the theatre visited about 70 educational institutions (schools, preschools, orphanages) in Moldovan villages and towns. The children are very happy to learn road traffic rules in a so funny way.
On the 26th of November 2014 the theatre arrived to an orphanage from Chisinau (“Preafericitul Iosif”) and tried to make smile 70 children, but to teach them to be aware on the roads and to understand the dangers of traffic. At the end of spectacle the children met the surprise – Zebra puppet (road safety symbol), who distributed reflectors, balloons (donated by the Operation Florian from UK) and sweets.
This orphanage school was one of the first in Moldova that joined along with the ACM the #SaveKidsLive campaign within the Third United Nations Global Road Safety Week (to be held on 4-10 May 2015). Children signed the boards with calls: “Let’s save the children!”, “Slow down!”, “I want safe crossings!”.
The campaign does so by:

  • highlighting the plight of children on the roads;
  • generating worldwide action to better ensure the safety of children on the roads;
  • calling for inclusion of safe and sustainable transport in the post-2015 development agenda.
  • The campaign operates on the principles of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 and is managed by a broad coalition of members from the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration.
