Safer streets, Streets for life

Streets are not just transit spaces. They are places where people walk, children play, parents push strollers, and communities live day by day. The way these spaces are designed and managed directly influences the safety, health, and quality of life of everyone.

In the Republic of Moldova, excessive speed and unadapted road infrastructure continue to endanger pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. Local public authorities play an essential role in changing this reality through decisions that prioritize life and safety.

This guide was developed by the NGO “Automobil Club of Moldova” with support from the Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) and the FIA Foundation. It aims to offer practical support and clear examples for creating safer streets, with a focus on speed management and effective traffic calming measures, adapted to the local context.
